About Unique Homestays Charity

Unique Homestays has led the way for luxury homestay accommodation since 2001. The brand’s obsession to curate a distinguished property collection, where inspiring locations and thought-provoking architecture combine, has grown into an exclusive portfolio of the most iconic homestays throughout the British Isles and beyond. Guests go to Unique Homestays for destinations that simply cannot be found elsewhere, taking up residence in the extraordinary private homes of British artists, aristocrats and mandarins of design. From family holidays to destination weddings, with 200 properties to choose from, a Unique Homestays experience will imprint on the mind for a lifetime.

Romantic and remote, Charity is a rustic farmhouse retreat in the Black Mountains bursting with character and style. The family residence of a string of notable British artists dating back to the 15th century, this exclusive destination venue sees English eccentricity and traditional Welsh design combine. Mountainous views dotted by wild ponies stretch for miles, Welsh blankets sit by huge open fires and al fresco feasts on long stone tables under the stars await. Celebrating raw romance and rural beauty with a luxe-bohemian twist (there’s a hot tub, snooker-cum-cocktail room, and bathtub for every one of the six double bedrooms), Charity is the ultimate destination for runaway lovers and up to 100 party guests.

Behind The Brand

What rooms/spaces do you have available for a wedding?

Charity is a 15th century farmhouse nested at the foothills of the Black Mountains on the England-Wales border. The modern-rustic living spaces comprise six en suite bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and snooker-cum-cocktail room with wide views of the valley, a cinema barn and open-plan living-dining space with huge open fire; all available to the wedding party who are welcome to settle in for the weekend, or longer. Couples can choose from either a graceful wedding the pretty stone churches of Llanveynoe or St Clydog’s nearby, or a celebrant-led ceremony at the house, surrounded by heather-clad hills. For an atmospheric reception, hire a marquee for the badminton lawn or host the party in the barn; a stylish space where guests can dine and dance the night away under the mirror ball.

How many people can each of these cater for?

There are three options available at Charity, with the venue accommodating up to 100 guests from £6,650 per week and £5,350 per short break (a three-night weekend or four-night midweek stay). A marquee will need to be erected to host 100 guests (50 guests between October and April) and the barn is only suitable for up to 30 guests. There is ample space for up to eight cars; four beside the house and four in a designated space on the private lane just up from the house.

Do you offer onsite accommodation?

Offering six luxury en suite bedrooms, Charity can accommodate up to twelve guests, plus dogs and babies. There are two doubles and four super king zip-and-link beds which can be arranged as twins, each enjoying far-reaching views of fields dotted with lambs and soaring distant hills.

What additional features and facilities does your property offer that couples may find useful?

Complete with Welsh blankets set beside roaring log fires, a well-equipped kitchen for whipping up a storm (or hiring in a chef), a snooker room, cocktail bar, and cinema projector in the barn, Charity has plenty to offer wedding parties; whether it’s raising glasses to future adventures at supper or sinking into a warm bath after a group hike. A wooden sauna leads down to the festoon-lit courtyard, where a wood-fired hot tub and fire pit await beneath starry skies. There’s also a croquet lawn, badminton court and outside pizza oven flanked by a long stone table for al fresco dining in the summer sun. Further afield, discover the private woodland, wild swim in cool, secret rivers or climb to the top of the Cat’s Back for awe-inspiring views over the Brecon Beacons.

What type of couple would fall in love with your property and why?

The private country residence of an acclaimed artist, here is a place for creatives and romantics.  Appealing to those with an eye for untamed refinement, Charity’s serene, mountainside location embodies the essence of wild and free bohemian spirit and provides the ultimate British elopement venue.

Editor’s tips…

Due to the nature of this venue having already so many timeless details, a beautiful way to compliment the space is to weave in a few modern staples. Think layered linens and ethereal blooms that create focal points amongst an already busy setting.
