What was the initial spark for the property and how did it all begin?

Janeiro Hotel was born from Oskar Metsavaht’s desire to translate his experience of Rio de Janeiro and the lifestyle that inspires him into a hotel. The vision was always to offer an experience of effortless luxury, rooted in the city’s natural beauty and minimalist sophistication.

The idea was to create a space where locals would feel confident recommending it to visiting friends, as if they were welcoming them into their own home. A place that not only captivates guests but also reflects the essence of Rio – bathed in natural light, embraced by the ocean breeze, and designed with a keen eye for sustainability.

Located in the cosmopolitan Leblon Beach, Janeiro Hotel invites guests to an immersive experience where architecture and nature blend harmoniously, always drawing the eye outward toward the ocean.

What spaces do you offer for a wedding or event?

Janeiro Hotel offers two distinct spaces for events and celebrations.

The VARANDA + The Little Pool: Located on the top two floors (18th and 19th), provide breathtaking panoramic views of Christ the Redeemer and the beaches of Arpoador, Ipanema, and Leblon. From the infinity pool, guests can admire Morro Dois Irmãos, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. With both open and enclosed areas, this space allows for different ambiances throughout the celebration.

The JANEIRO Restaurant: On the 2nd floor, is a private and intimate setting with large windows framing the Leblon seascape. Many couples choose to combine both spaces, creating diverse atmospheres and moments throughout their event, or even across multiple days.

Additionally, Cedilha: Our bar at the hotel’s entrance, offers a more casual and youthful vibe, perfect for happy hours and relaxed gatherings.

How many guests can you cater for?

VARANDA + The Little Pool: Accommodates up to 110 guests for a cocktail-style reception.

JANEIRO Restaurant: Seats up to 60 guests for a cocktail reception or 50 guests for a seated dinner.

These options allow for customized experiences, combining different settings for distinct moments throughout the celebration.

The true magic of Janeiro Hotel lies in its privileged location, warm ambiance, and perfect size for exclusive events. With only 51 suites—all featuring full or partial ocean views – the hotel becomes the ideal retreat for an intimate and unforgettable wedding.

Beyond that, the versatility of our spaces allows for a seamless transition between different moods and moments. Imagine starting the day with a refined breakfast at the restaurant, followed by an open-air meal on our VARANDA; or transitioning from a lively game night at the restaurant to a private dinner at another enchanting Rio location.

As the only hotel located directly on Leblon Beach, Janeiro offers a truly authentic Rio experience. Throughout the weekend, guests can enjoy activities like beach sports tournaments, sunset sailing excursions, or even a moonlit luau—making each celebration even more memorable.

What advice can you give couples when selecting their venue?

At Janeiro, we believe a wedding should be more than just a celebration – it should be an experience. Our approach extends beyond the hotel’s interiors, allowing couples to immerse themselves in Rio in a truly authentic way.

One of our most special offerings is Mar de Janeiro, the hotel’s private sailboat, designed to create unique moments at sea. Whether for a romantic escape for two or a special gathering with family and friends, Mar de Janeiro allows couples to enjoy the city from a whole new perspective, sailing along Rio’s stunning coastline.

For those looking to incorporate wellness into their experience, we offer personalized beach workouts, led by a dedicated personal trainer for the couple and their guests.

For honeymooners, we curate exclusive experiences, such as an in-room spa session featuring a four-hand massage for each partner. To elevate the romance, we can even privatize the pool for an intimate sunset dinner—an unforgettable moment of pure magic, available only at Janeiro Hotel and in the heart of Rio de Janeiro.
