Behind The Brand

Your best pieces of advice for event planning?

Don’t overlook the small details! Your invitations will set the mood for your event, what unique details can you add? Whether your event is relaxed or formal, a simple layer of natural textiles in muted hues can transform a table. Layered fabrics, organic frayed napkins, fabrics draped as a backdrop, these details are small in the scope of planning your event but can transform a venue into an inviting and personal space.

What was the spark for Silk and Willow? Where did the story begin?

The alluring colors from nature are what sparked a desire to extract and infuse this palette into textiles. Throughout history, colors extracted from nature and natural elements have played an integral part in telling a story about an era or community of people. Our story begins in our studio where we create color gathered from our gardens and from around the world. Each color is created with a process and intention, and, each is color has a unique story to tell.

What inspires you creatively?

When something minimal can speak volumes it ignites curiosity. It may be a ceramic bowl, piece of art, or a fallen leaf. Beauty in it’s simplest form is magical and inspiring.

Most memorable place you’ve travelled?

Maui has a special place in my heart after traveling there for our honeymoon. The road to Hana was a highlight. Quite, serene, curious, and vast. There was something to explore around every corner!

On a typical weekend we’ll find you?

On a typical weekend, you will find me in one of my gardens. I grow both dye plants for creating color and medicinal plants for concocting natural remedies. There is always work to be done in the gardens! I may be weeding, trimming, or harvesting. In the garden I can “slow-down” and unplug. Connecting with nature is my favorite way to contemplate ideas and re-charge.
