Refined Elegance in an Ancient Mexican Hacienda

Photography by Joel & Justyna for Ximena & Alfredo

Occasionally we stumble across venues that are perfect in their imperfection. Where ageing facades and weather-worn structures feed into narratives of romance, of time and nature working harmoniously to build spaces that inspire us to discover, explore, and create…

Held in a restored Mexican Hacienda, Ximena and Alfredo’s wedding took cues from the vista’s surrounds, with vine-covered buildings and tropical gardens inspiring a layered palette in shades of emerald and jade.

From a paired back ceremony at the Hacendia’s stone-walled chapel, the reception was decidedly more lush. Ferns wrapped around canopies that spoke to the jungle, overflowing greenery that fell to tables dressed in woven gauze and adorned with linen menus finished with a sprig of rosemary.

How we met…

We actually met at work! We used to work as a creative couple for an advertising agency as a Copy Writer and an Art Director. I used to date someone else but Freddy kept trying to convince me he was the one! He was super sweet and after a year of convincing I just couldn’t resist.

Marriage to us means…

Communication, respect and support.

The Details

Wedding Location

We were married at Hacienda Vista Hermosa in Tequesquitengo, Mexico. We chose this place because we fell in love with the antiquity of the hacienda, the greenery of it, and the story that’s behind it.

Theme & Style

Our wedding style was a new take on bohemia. We wanted to keep everything authentic and real but find romance in the details and lots of elegant touches. We drew inspiration from the hotel’s surrounds and our amazing florist!

Photography

Joel & Justyna were our photographers and they were amazing! Their cinematic style was really what caught us. Their pictures are super romantic and creative, and how they play with color and light is so beautiful.

Fashion Notes

Bride

The dress is from Pronovias and it has a “mermaid’ shape. The dress from the waist to the bottom is made with a crepe fabric in ivory color. It also has some flowery details made with lace that go down to the tail. The top of the dress is full lace with the same flowery details and it has this invisible effect in the back. Such a beautiful dress! My earrings and the headpiece are from BHLDN in gold.

Wedding Rings

Our rings are from Blue Nile.

Grooms & Groomsmen

The groom was wearing a Massimo Dutti suit paired with a tie from The Tie Bar. The groomsmen wore suits in light grey with olive ties to match Alfredo.

Hair & Makeup

I kept things simple with an up-do style for my hair and smokey brown eyes and pink/nude lips.

Style Notes

Stationery & Invitations

I personally designed my own wedding invitations and menus because I am a graphic designer, but I printed them with Ana Loyola. The calligraphy was made by Miren from Dilo Bonito Caligrafia. The invitations were 100% cotton paper with a letterpress finish in an olive green colour. Save the date, map and tickets were bound by a silk ribbon in the same fabric as the bridesmaids dresses. Finally, the envelopes were sealed with a beautiful wax seal in gold with our initials on it. Menus were also made with the letterpress technique, with a wax seal in gold and on top a beautiful rosemary leaf from Mariana Buendia.

Flowers & Bouquets

I hired Ezzenza by Mariana Buendía to do the flowers at my wedding. The style was inspired by greenery so all the plants and flowers were super natural and organic in green, gold, brown and white tones. My bouquet was organic and big with some ribbons hanging from underneath.

Preparation

One day before the wedding we got together with our closest family and had dinner at Hacienda. On the wedding day I got ready with my mom.

Wedding Planner

My Wedding planner was Daniela Saad (Owner of the Hacienda). She was great, everything was on point!
