Olive Cooke’s Romantic Garden Wedding in Byron Bay

Photography by Megan Kelly for Olive & Henry

We’re forever swept up in love stories of the wildest, most fervent kind, where two intrinsic souls collide to create something real, something potent. A romance steeped in magic.

Having photographed model Olive Cooke and partner Henry Tervenski for our Lovers series, we’ve witnessed firsthand their profound and palpable love for one another. So, needless to say, we were more than excited to see their chic wedding drop into our inbox.

Nestled between infinite rows of macadamia trees and the undulating hills of the Byron Bay hinterland, Olive and Henry’s wedding was an elegant garden affair. Effortlessly melding the modern with the boheme, the couple exchanged vows in a quaint church encircled by manicured hedges and delicate, perfumed roses. Olive was the epitome of contemporary chic in a slip-style dress with an organza overlay, before changing into a sleek midi for the reception, elevated by a perfectly oversized bow.

The party ensued beneath a white marquee where tables were romantically styled with Tiffany chairs, pillar candles, and blooms curated in a palette of soft pink.

Artistically capturing every detail of this summer celebration was Lane favorite, Megan Kelly.

How We Met

Henry and I met through friends when I had first moved to Byron Bay.

Our Engagement Story

Henry proposed at sunset on the beach in Hawaii while we were on holiday with friends. It was such a surprise and couldn’t have been more perfect.

Marriage to us Means…

Marriage is a commitment to each other for the rest of our lives. A wedding does not have any true religious meaning for us, it was truly a great moment to have all our friends and family from across Australia and the world come together, be in one place, and celebrate our love. It felt so special to have those that we love altogether.

The Details

Wedding Location

We got married at Christine’s Church of The Two Grandfathers. We are not religious but fell in love with the little church which was the perfect indoor area for our ceremony, while also having beautiful gardens surrounding that we could create the perfect reception space.

Preparation

The night before our wedding I stayed together with my bridesmaids and had a lovely dinner, and then champagne in the morning when my mum came to get ready with us.

Overall Aesthetic / Style

We wanted to create a beautiful but relaxed garden party. We used lots of soft neutrals in the marquee, table settings, and florals to contrast the green of the garden.

Wedding Planner

Our wedding planner was Tanya Shaw of Oh Flora Studio, she was so amazing throughout and bought everything we imagined to life and more.

Photography

Megan Kelly photographed our wedding. I have always loved her style of wedding photography as she captures beautiful moments and amazing details. I love how much emotion was captured in our wedding photos, and couldn’t have imagined it any better.

Style Notes

We had three layers to our cake; chocolate almond mud, Persian love cake and lemon, and elderflower this was covered in white chocolate ganache with edible flowers to decorate.

Food & Beverages

We had the wonderful Bruno from Terra Catering talking us through the most amazing Italian menu for the day, we had a grazing table to start, then sat at long tables and shared plates of delicious pasta, meat and fish. As we were getting married on international margarita day we also had incredible cocktails all night from the local Dead East drinks team.

I walked down the aisle to ‘Lovin You’,  by Minnie Riperton. Our first dance song was ‘Take Yo Praise’, by Camille Yarborough.
