Fall ’17 Ready to Wear Report

An artistic evolution of rich painterly hues

Fall 2017 runway shows were a powerful display of femininity with the likes of Erdem and Prabal Gurung carrying on Dior’s memorable Spring 2017 feminist movement. Collections saw an artistic evolution of primary colorways, transforming into rich painterly hues of wine, midnight blue and saffron.

With a distinctly poetic aesthetic, designers explored angular lines beside gentle, fluid movement – an important declaration of femininity without mitigating the sharp tailoring and strong color that fall collections are renowned for. Decadent velvets filtered throughout the shows, typically rich yet unexpectedly delicate in bold statement hues and muted floral patterns. In a distinct play on textures, layer upon layer of feather-light laces and opulent embroidery added depth to otherwise minimalist silhouettes. Mood-shifting florals in earthy sand hues and washed lilac were softly finished with fine lace applique.

Velvet slip gowns, peppered with hand-embellished crystals, were layered over fitted woollen jumpers, while tailored wool coats masked the most delicate of Chantilly lace gowns in an unexpected yet powerful connection of typically masculine and feminine elements. While fashion explored unexpected colorways, runway beauty remained luminous. Models wore minimal make up with glowing skin, a brushed-out brow and blush tinted lips; a pared-back and complementary look for any statement outfit.
