The Lane List: Sydney Wedding Florists

Our edit of Sydney’s most visionary floral artists

There is a magic to floristry that exists in the subtleties. The way colors are matched and textures are layered, the ability to draw the eye to feathered petals and cascading leaves. For Grandiflora’s Saskia Havekes, floristry is akin to language, a set of visual inflections that represent the cities and towns in which they are created. When it comes to Sydney wedding florists, expect architectural arrangements and structural bouquets, installations of blooms that reflect the shapes and colours of the Sydney skyline.

In a city overflowing with floral talent, we’ve compiled an edit of or favourite names in wedding floristry. From wildly romantic bunches to structural shapes in earthen hues, these are our top picks for creations that speak to the spirit of Sydney. Perfect for harborside weddings and soirees by the beach, where styling captures the energy of city living.

Doctor Cooper

Sophia Kaplan

Doctor Cooper

Holding a doctorate of philosophy in fine art from the University of New South Wales, Lisa Cooper creates floral creations reminiscent of our favourite galleries. With a client list including Maticevski, Romance was Born and Tiffany & Co, Dr. Cooper is our pick for cascading installations and dramatic bouquets. As a permanent artist in residence at Sydney’s Carriageworks, expect rich colours and layered textures, arrangements that speak to deep emotions and wild passions.

Hermetica

Hermetica is a floral oasis hidden behind expansive an ever-changing Darlinghurst window installations. After seven years in London, Hermetica’s Jai Winnell has come home to Sydney, bringing with him his distinctive aesthetic of clean lines and simple blooms. Jai creates cohesive bunches in tonal palettes, focusing on arrangements that play with size and shape to create visual drama and textural depth.

Boutierre Girls

As a child, Boutierre Girls’ Emily Michele Smith sectioned off a corner of her family’s backyard, naming it her ‘Flower Park’. Since then, her love for florals has turned professional and Boutierre Girls is one of Sydney’s most in demand florists. Based in the Northern suburbs, it was Smith’s workshop that first caught our eye, where blooms in kaleidoscopic hues cover walls lined with white shelving. Instantly recognisable and eternally covetable, think abundant arrangements and florals en mass, flowers reminiscent of Smith’s childhood dreams.

Seed Flora

Fleurette

Inspired by nomadic wonder and Parisian sensibilities, we love Fleurette for undone arrangements that wind and climb. With a background in fashion and the creative arts, expect cascading bouquets, dramatic arbours and arrangements that speak to her distinctively sartorial mindset. Founded in Paris before returning to her home in Sydney, Christelle Scifo sources florals in soft palettes and feathered textures; blooms that pair perfectly with gowns of French Lace and liquid silk.

FloraFolk

With a studio based by the sea, FloraFolk is our go-to for floral creations that speak to midnight swims and sunset horizons. Think arrangements in hues of blush and lilac, wildly romantic creations woven into arbours and hung from ceilings. FloraFolk forages the Sydney Flower Markets daily to source luxe blooms for their transformative arrangements. With a focus on personable service and client relationships, expect bespoke creations that reflect each individual bride.

Grandiflora

A Sydney institution that has been in operation since 1995, Grandiflora is our pick for dramatic bouquets and statement installations. Working from a tiny studio in the inner-city suburb of Potts Point, Saskia’s arrangements have been featured by the likes of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Expect artful arrangements and overflowing bouquets, mesmerising creations finished with one of Saskia’s signature handwritten cards. Having authored four books and with a collection of botanic fragrances, the Grandiflora empire redefines floristry infusing every event with their inimitable aesthetic.

My Flower Man

Beginning as a side project and growing into one of Sydney’s most sought-after florists, My Flower Man offers arrangements that are wildly unstructured. Reflecting rugged terrains and luscious horizons, bunches are kept oversized, incorporating Australian natives, soft blooms and resplendent greens. The florist of choice for brands including My Chameleon, Vogue Australia, Harper’s Bazaar Australia and Bassike, we love My Flower Man for weddings in sunlit galleries and abandoned warehouses…

My Violet

Creating enchanting arrangements that recall country gardens and overgrown paths, we love My Violet for blooms that are perfectly unstructured. Expect garden roses and fresh daisies, feathered florals that tumble from bouquets and fall from tabletops. Mixing vintage influences with contemporary styles, every arrangement appears freshly picked and effortlessly crafted. Think blooms artfully adorning doorways, woven into undone braids and fragrant arrangements that transform venues into secret gardens…

Seed Flora

Providing blooms for the likes of Louis Vuitton and David Jones, Seed Flora are a mainstay in Sydney Floristry. Think voluminous arrangements and dramatic florals, blooms that encase staircases and stretch from tabletops to the floor like a waterfall of flowers.  Recently closing their inner-city shopfront, Seed Flora now operates on a by-order only basis, allowing them to cater exclusively to events, weddings and high end corporate and house clients.

Jardine Botanic

Aleksandra

From a childhood spent on her family’s property in Dural, Aleksandra has developed a love for florals that reflect rustic rural towns. Located in the outer Sydney suburb of Dural, Aleksandra is positioned among local growers and farmers and handpicks the freshest blooms to work with. Aleksandra creates striking arrangements in pastel hues, perfect for garden weddings and beachside soirees.

Poho

A portmanteau of Potts Point and Soho, Poho arrangements weave Australian natives into more traditional bouquets. Think overgrown greens and earthen hues, sculptural pieces that have a timeless aesthetic and speak to the individual visions of each client. Working to an ethos of sustainability, Poho source from local growers, supporting Australian farmers and celebrating native produce.

Sophia Kaplan

Each of Sophia Kaplan’s arrangement speaks to a story, a visual manifestation of time and place. The art of arrangement begins as the flowers are sourced, from wildflowers foraged from the side of the Alps to overgrown blooms stumbled upon in an open field. Expect seasonal flowers romantically arranged, snapshots of the world as Kaplan sees it.
