4 Tips for Simple Tablescape Styling
Styling tips for home tablescapes – from intimate dinners, languid lunches, to alfresco breakfasts in the sun.
There is romance in styling that’s devoid of occasion. In the pure passion of layering pieces and creating beauty to be experienced every day. In refusing to wait for the perfect moment, and prioritising life’s little moments in between.
Draw inspiration from celebratory styling, and pour energy into the spaces that form part of your every day – intimate dinners at home, languid lunches with friends, or lazy Sunday breakfasts in the sun.
The key is in finding a balance between drama and simplicity to select pieces that enhance a particular mood. Tablescapes don’t need to be elaborate or cluttered, and they shouldn’t detract from the dining experience by overwhelming the setting or feeling meticulously planned. We’ve put together 4 tips for effortless styling you can play around with at home…
Texture
Draw on the contrasting qualities of textures formed organically in nature. Choose a surface and juxtapose its qualities with opposite textures. Think weathered tables draped in raw frayed edged linens, finished with smooth, glazed ceramics in fluid shapes.
Height
An easy way to add drama to an otherwise effortless table settings, is to play with height. Choose one element as the focal part of your tablescape – we love using sculptural branches of Magnolias or Cherry Blossoms arranged in transparent vessels scattered down in the centre of your table.
Color
Choose a color palette and layer decor in slight variations of a single shade. Think dark palettes of charcoal linen, black ceramic dinner plates finished with antique silverware and candelabra. Muted tints of dusky pink linens, copper flatware and rose gold accents. Or ethereal all white shades in layered linens, perfumed candles, organic shaped ceramics, mother of pearl cutlery and fresh blooms.
Light
Create a beautifully moody ambience by completely filling the centre of your table with light. Arrange clusters of candles in clear glass wine bottles (pre-melt over the bottles), cascades of tarnished candelabra arranged at different heights, or gilded lanterns.
