An Endlessly Elegant Reception at an 18th-century Lisbon Palace

A delicate dance of contrast and balance, this reception blends cascading florals, ambient candlelight, and architectural details to enhance and illuminate an 18th-century palace’s timeless allure.

To elevate an already exquisite atmosphere is a delicate undertaking. A careful dance of contrast and considered balance. This hypnotically romantic reception at an 18th-century Lisbon palace is a testament to the transcendent beauty that results from finding that stylistic balance, then executing it with intuitive artistry.

At first our eye is drawn to the cascading hydrangeas and soft, draped linens that are arranged with minimalist precision along the tablescape at this Lisbon wedding venue. Then, the clusters of candles that cast ambient lighting across the assorted crystal glassware whose stems are adorned with black ribbon for a hint of drama. The architectural wooden chairs, each unique in design but cohesive in aesthetic, bring an added layer of inimitable charm, while the 18th-century palace itself, with its intricate frescoes and elegant allure, provides the perfect canvas for a design that celebrates ephemeral textures and organic forms.

In an act of creative finesse, Ami Bojang & Sandrine Philie managed to enhance and illuminate the venue’s regal atmosphere without overpowering it.

Ami Bojang & Sandrine Philie’s Styling Tips

  • Choose a neutral color palette by opting for shades like cream, ivory, sand, white, beige, and black. These colors create a sophisticated, versatile aesthetic that remains timeless and enhances the natural beauty of any space.
  • Implement balance and contrast by ensuring that your color choices create a harmonious balance. For example, using black sparingly can add a chic contrast without overwhelming the softer tones.
  • Incorporate personalized elements such as flowers matching the bride’s bouquet on each plate. This adds a unique, elegant touch to the setting.
  • Choose decor that complements the venue’s existing colors and architectural details. This ensures that your table setting enhances rather than clashes with the venue’s features.
  • Use soft, diffused lighting to create a warm, inviting ambiance. Consider clusters of pillar and taper candles to add warmth and a touch of drama without overpowering the space.
  • Opt for artful venues with rich character. This setting is ideal for venues with rich architectural details or ornate decor, as the neutral palette and minimalist design can complement and enhance the space without overwhelming it. Think of old European venues that haven’t been perfectly renovated, keeping their original charm.
