Reem Acra
Spring ’20 Bridal

A symphony of dramatic silhouettes inspired by global influences

As we’ve come to learn, Reem Acra doesn’t do anything in half measures. A connoisseur for curating unique experiences, each season she strives to top the last, wildly pushing the boundaries and uninspired by predictability. Passion and an ignited inspiration is rooted in her work, constantly challenging herself, the industry and her brides alike to delve further than just ‘good enough’.

This season, again partnering with wedding stylist Preston Bailey, Reem Acra invited guests to immerse themselves in a truly sacred experience, a mass-come-runway at Saint Bartholomew Church in New York City. As guests shuffled into their seats (note: pews), you couldn’t help but take a moment to appreciate the sheer beauty of the church… vaulted ceilings lit up as the sun poured through the stained glass windows, illuminating archways that lined the nave.

As the show began, classical symphonies slowly faded into 80s hits, as so too did the collection; traditional go-to silhouettes made way for more voluminous, dramatic, jewel-encrusted looks inspired by the yesteryears, suitable for the more daring bride. Menswear tailoring paired with Prince-like ruffles shirting and Eastern-inspired styling was also a first for the designer, opening up her line to grooms as a new venture in partnership with tailor Joseph Abboud. Yet when stripped back from all the bold adornment, the collection reveals itself to be a beautifully wearable range that we predict will resonate with brides and grooms from all corners of the world.

Tell us about the inspiration and story behind the Spring ’20 collection…

The show, titled ‘The Thank-you collection,’ blends global inspirations – evoking wonder, excitement, and sophistication. Opening with six pink flower girl gowns, the tone is set with the very first dress – ‘Keep Dreaming.’ Infusing both old and new world elements, the collection blends historical references with modern aesthetics. Reem Acra’s vision is transpired through the incorporation of cultural elements from around the world, highlighting both tradition and modernity.
