Behind The Brand
How would you describe your photography style?
I think my style is best described as a blend of documentary and editorial. The approach I take during a wedding day, is that of a quiet observer, unobtrusively documenting and sharing in the events as they happen, letting the day speak for itself to showcase the quiet and joyous moments alike. I’m there to capture the real connections, the real emotions and all the beautifully intricate details. During the portrait session I help guide and direct my couples in a way that brings out an editorial feel without being overly staged, while we create some beautiful art pieces. My biggest inspiration is the personalities of the people I photograph. I always want my images to reflect the honest connection of the people in them.
What is it that makes an image magical?
Emotion!!! I honestly believe that honest, real emotion is the magic that brings photographs to life and what makes them live on through the generations.
What advice would you give to the camera-shy couple?
My advice to camera shy couples, is to choose a photographer that you feel a connection with. They will be with you all day long and the more trust you have in them, the easier it will feel. It’s never not going to feel a bit awkward in front of the camera, but if you try to let your guard down and have fun things will be much easier for you. Also, I personally love how camera shy couples retreat into each other when they are nervous. It makes for some great images!
Do you travel interstate or internationally?
Absolutely. I have been lucky enough to photograph weddings for my wonderful clients all over Australia and internationally. To name just a few, some destination wedding highlights have been Santorini, Las Vegas, Singapore, Fiji, New Zealand, Darwin, Adelaide, Melbourne, Townsville.
As an estimate, how long does your editing process take?
The editing process for a wedding takes me about 3-4 full days to complete. I meticulously go through each image chosen for the final gallery and colour grade & process them to suit my chosen aesthetic. They are then uploaded to a personalised client gallery and delivered via a beautiful USB also. Taking into account the time of year, the amount of weddings I am shooting and have backed up to edit, the completed gallery is usually delivered 8-10 weeks after the wedding day.
Describe a magical moment from a wedding you’ve photographed…
At a recent wedding I was photographing, the father of the bride had previously had a stroke and could not walk or talk any more. For months he underwent physical therapy to be able to walk his daughter down the aisle. What she didn’t know, was that he secretly also underwent months of intensive speech therapy, and as the speeches started shocked everyone as he stood up gave his toast and speech to the entire wedding. It was such a moving moment and there wasn’t a dry eye in the whole room. Including mine!!
