Union Studios is a series of modern jewelry classics made by hand in Sydney, Australia. Using sustainably created diamonds and local master artisans, we’re accelerating the shift to more conscious industry practices. 

In a sea of fast trends and waste, we’re challenging traditional conventions to create a simple offering based on sustainability, quality and transparency. Handmade to order, we interpret and translate personal stories into the jewellery we make, ensuring that each piece is as unique as the people behind it. 

Behind The Brand

What was the spark for beginning Union Studios?

Director and Designer, Erin began her career in jewelry when she was just nineteen. As a young woman in what was then a male-dominated trade, she felt the industry had outdated traditional views and wanted to advocate for a more sustainable future – socially, economically and environmentally. After ten years of working with some of Sydney’s most prestigious jewellers, she launched Unions Studios alongside her Husband Matt. Together with their combined experience in design, they focus on bringing beautiful objects of meaning into the world that add value and support positive change.

How would you describe your aesthetic?

A refined aesthetic that embraces simple design. Our pieces combine a classic and distinctive form, made to age gracefully and last for generations. We are drawn to bold, staple pieces that can be effortlessly layered to suit your own individual style.

What inspires you creatively?

Craftsmanship and originality are the forefront of our brand, with a strong focus on the handmade process, making each piece entirely unique to the individual. We are inspired by our couples and aim to weave their personal stories into each piece we design and create.

What advice can you give to couples when shopping for their engagement ring?

It is so important to select a jeweller that you align with personally, and that you trust. The honour of being chosen to create someone’s engagement ring, a piece that will be carried throughout one’s life is never lost on us. Every detail counts, from the moment you encounter our team to the moment the final piece becomes yours. We treasure every part of this process and endeavour to make it every bit as beautiful, as it should be. Our balanced and guided approach communicates everything you need to know, to dissolve misinformation and help you focus on what truly matters.

What are you drawn to in wedding jewelry right now? What would you like to see less of in your industry?

Everyday investment pieces that feel modern but will never date. We’re drawn to timeless treasures like tennis bracelets and tennis necklaces that are versatile for both special occasions and everyday wear.

The jewelry industry has come a long way in the last decade, but much more needs to be done to assure consumers that the jewelry they purchase is sourced and made responsibly. We have taken a number of steps as a business to ensure our moral responsibility to our clients. We work with transparent and responsible partners to promote fair working conditions in our supply chain and detail the provenance of our supply. Our lab grown diamonds are certified by esteemed laboratories that highlight the manufacturing process of each diamond, so you know exactly what you’re buying, and how materials are being produced. Our diamonds come accompanied by a Sustainably Rated certificate and are fully traceable. We hope that other jewelry companies undertake similar initiatives to drive the long-term industry change that we want to see.
