Behind The Brand

Your best pieces of advice for event planning?

When planning your wedding, we always tell couples to not feel constrained to the “rules” and societal norms for what the day should look like. Everything should be the way you want to do it, not what a magazine tells you. Want to hang with your guests before the ceremony? Do it! Want to have your ceremony at the end of the party instead of the beginning? Go for it! Don’t feel tied to what everyone else does, think outside of the box to make sure it feels authentically you! And of course if being authentically you means following the traditional route, then that is perfect, as long as it feels right!

What was the spark for Forged In The North Where did the story begin?

Ryan and I both went to school for architecture (where we met) and worked as architects in NYC for a couple years. We started shooting weddings on the side for fun and fell in love with it! Being able to work with light, composition, landscapes and streetscapes in photography gives us so much creative fulfillment and inspiration in a similar way that architecture does. But now we get to work with rad couples and travel the world!

What inspires you creatively?

Our couples and their stories, exciting locations, and of course, architecture.

Most memorable place you’ve travelled?

Hmmm, that is a tough one! As cliche as it is, we would have to say Iceland. It feels like another planet.

On a typical weekend we’ll find you?

Shooting a wedding! On a non wedding day, you will find us either working from our studio in Brooklyn or at my parent’s house on Long Island, sipping some New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the back deck.
