About Hera Couture

Designed in New Zealand for the modern romantic, Hera Couture is cherished internationally by brides who appreciate timeless design and luxurious quality.

From stunning french crepes to hand-draped silk drill satin, Designer Katie Yeung established Hera Couture in 2010, after a childhood immersed in fashion.

Inspired by real women, Yeung designs each gown to fit perfectly, celebrating every body shape, style, and personality. There is no need to ‘imagine’ what a dress would look like on you. Sizes range from UK 0 to 36.

Behind The Brand

Describe the woman you design for…

With an air of understated elegance, a Hera Bride is confident and classy. Unapologetically herself, she doesn’t necessarily conform to norms or traditions.

What is your most popular piece?

Our hand-cut sakura petals on our Lavant gown and French Crepe fabrics have always been a bridal favorite. This year, our brides have really adored the hand-draping of Silky Drill satin in our Le Chic gown.

What advice would you give to brides-to-be?

Feel free to explore fabrics and styles that you wouldn’t normally wear on a daily basis, but on your most special day, your wedding gown should be more than something that you love. She should be an extension and an elevated version of yourself. Lastly, your gown should always be made to fit you and never the other way around.

As a designer, what tips do you have for brides to get the most out of their fittings?

Start your gown journey as early as you can – you may find that all your other elements fall into place after you find ‘the one’. Choose a boutique that listens, and truly understands your style and vision. For a custom experience, it’s so important to browse around and select a designer that matches your personal taste, look, and feel.

Do you offer a custom design service for brides? If so, how long does it take to make a custom piece?

From first sketches to sourcing the perfect fabric, Katie handpicks and carefully selects to ensure even the finest details along your bespoke journey can bring your vision to life. She will design just twelve bespoke pieces a year, and each gown takes six months, from the first appointment to final fitting.

What advice do you give to brides to care for their gown?

Only professionally clean your gown with a master dry cleaner, who specializes in bridal gowns. Take your gown out of the bag for an airing every so often, and feel give her a twirl, reliving your those special moments. Store for generations to come in a cool, dry place – either hanging inside your gown bag or folded in a tissue wrapped/acid-free box.

Editors Notes

Why we love it…

Hera speaks to the grounded, nomadic, earthly woman. We love the organic simplicity each gown holds resulting in an unspoken classicism.

For the Bride…

For the bride seeking heartfelt designs, immersed with heritage, honor, and a sense of authentic timelessness.

Styling tips…

When planning your bridal accessories consider the fabric of the gown, any embellishment, the style and shape of your bouquet, and hair and make-up looks. Seek the advice of Founder and Lead Designer Katie when understanding the textures in your gown and how best to pair your veil, heels, and jewelry.
